Officials say 15 people have been killed by torrential rains in eastern Congo.
“We are recording enormous damage; practically it is a disaster. We have just removed 15 bodies from these waters,” North Kivu provincial official Roger Malinga said.
The rains on Thursday caused the river to flood, explained Faustin Kasole, the leader of civil society in the area, adding that one village had been absolutely “removed from the map.”
He said that he expected the death toll to be even higher, given that the hunt for bodies had taken place overnight in the dark and continued.
