Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi will stay with Barcelona’s Spanish giants for another season.
Messi, who had spent nearly two decades with the Catalan club, had told Barca that he wanted to depart.
In a documented interview with Goal, the Argentinian talisman said, “I figured and was sure that I was free to leave, the president always said that at the end of the season I will determine whether or not I would stay,” he said.
“Now they hold to the fact that I didn’t say it before June 10, because it turns out that on June 10, we were playing for La Liga in the midst of this terrible coronavirus, and this disease has changed all season.
“So that’s why I’m going to stay in the club. Now I’m going to remain in the club because the president told me that the only way to quit was to pay the € 700 million (£624 m) provision, and that this is impossible.
The six-time Ballon D’or winner said he doesn’t want to leave Barcelona where he’s played since he was a kid on note of litigations
