Knowledge and skills are the driving forces behind economic growth and social development. Despite the current high level of unemployment, using appropriate skill development efforts to leverage Nigeria ‘s young demographics provides an opportunity to attain inclusion and competitiveness within the country. Large-scale skills development is the N-Power Program’s key policy thrust.
N-Power is also associated with the policies of the Federal Government in the fields of economic, employment and social development. N-Power addresses the problem of youth unemployment by offering a large-scale framework for the acquisition and production of appropriate job skills while connecting its center and results to fixing insufficient public services and stimulating the broader economy. The integrated systems under N-Power should ensure that much of what is required to locate or construct work is learned and practised by each participant. The N-Power Volunteer Corp includes a large deployment of 500,000 qualified students who will aim to strengthen the gaps of our public education and health services and civic education. Some of these graduates will also help in actualising Nigeria’s economic and strategic aspirations of achieving food security and self-sufficiency.
N-Power would also serve a forum for economic diversification. N-Power is training young Nigerians for a knowledge-based economy, where they become innovators and movers in domestic and global markets, equipped with world-class skills and qualifications. Nigeria will have a pool of software developers, professionals in the hardware industry, animators, graphic designers, professionals in the construction sector, artisans and others. N-Power also focuses on providing relevant technical and business skills to our non-graduates that enhance their work and livelihood outlook.
Npower programmes has been divided into two categories which are graduate and nongraduate categories.
N-Power Volunteer Corps
For Nigerians between 18 and 35, the N-Power Volunteer Corps is the post-tertiary participation initiative. This is a 2-year paid internship scheme. The graduates will undertake their primary duties within their nearby communities in identified public service.
All N-Power Volunteers are entitled to computing devices that will contain the information required for their particular participation, as well as information for their continuous development and training.
In 2016, 200,000 N-Power Volunteers were hired by the Federal government. The Federal Government is enlisting a further 300,000 in 2017. The June 2017 application is only available to the N-Power Volunteer Corps, a graduate group. N-Power volunteers will provide teaching, instructional, and advisory solutions in 4 key areas.
