Mabior Garang is the son of former Sudanese leader, John Garang and Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior
John was considered the most powerful figure in Sudan until the time of his death in a helicopter crash in 2005. Since 9 July 2005 to 30 July 2005, he was Sudan’s first Vice President.
Family Garang is very politically and warmly linked to former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who recently challenged the presidency in Kenya.

The burial in Kenya of Raila ‘s wife, Fidel Odinga, was carried out in January 2015 by Mabior Garang.
