The Nigeria Police Bill, 2020 was signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The signing of the bill was announced in a statement by the Special Advisor to Femi Adesina, President of Media and Publicity.
In a memorandum dated 16 September 2020, the President communicated his assent to the bill to the National Assembly via the clerk of the legislature.
The Act repeals the Limit Police Act. P19. P19. Laws of the Federation, 2004 and provides for a more efficient and well-organized police force, driven by the principles of openness and accountability in its activities and the management of its resources.
Among others, the Act sets out an effective funding mechanism for the Police in line with what can be done in other key agencies of the Federal Government, strengthens the professionalism of the Force through enhanced training opportunities, and establishes sustainable collaboration and partnership between the Police Force and the communities in the preservation of peace and the war against crime across the country.
