According to a report released to the newsmen by the State Fire Service on Tuesday, 15 September, the incident claimed two lives for the 10 residents trapped in the collapsed building.
Giving details of the incident in Kano today, Malam Saidu Muhammed, spokesperson for the State Fire Service, disclosed that they had been informed of the incident from a distress call received at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday from a Malam Abdullah Muhammad.
“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at about 1:37 a.m,” said Muhammed.
“we discovered that the house, a one-storeyed building, collapsed on 10 dwellers and that they were covered by broken blocks and sand.”Muhammed revealed further that the service was able to successfully rescue 8 people alive out of the 10 persons trapped in the building. He noted that the rescued victims have been taken to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano for proper medical attention, while the body of the two persons found dead have also been evacuated.He admonished Kano state citizens to be conscious of their environment and to avoid living in dilapidated buildings.
