BBNaija Update: FG Breaks Silence On Shutting Down BBNaija Over COVID-19 The Federal Government has dismissed claims that the ongoing reality TV show, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) is being shut down.
Top Gist Portal understands that reports had reported that the Federal Government was on the verge of shutting down BBNaija due to fears that COVID-19 would spread among housemates.
On Wednesday, the article quoted the Acting Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Armstrong Idachaba, for telling senior management at a meeting that the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had ordered him to shut down BBNaija.
The Federal Government, however, cleared the air on the speculation of shutting down the reality television show two days after the report.
A report on AN24.net, quoted Segun Adeyemi, the Information Minister’s Special Adviser (Media), said on Friday night that President Muhammadu Buhari’s Federal Government had no reason to stop the reality show.
The information minister ‘s spokesman said if there was a justification to suspend BBNaija, the federal government wouldn’t hesitate to do so, but the information and culture minister would express the order via a memo.
Adeyemi has rejected the Federal government ‘s news of shutting down BBNaija as a “mischief app.”
Meanwhile, the Big Brother Naija ‘s 5th season kicked off on Sunday 19 July in Lagos, Nigeria ‘s commercial city with 20 housemates vying for the N85 million grand prize.
