A 28-year-old woman was shot dead by her husband at the Madeira Police Station in Mthatha, South Africa, where she had gone to report domestic violence.
The perpetrator, who was said to be an employee of the security firm, was immediately detained by the police.
Some eyewitnesses who were at the police station at the time of the shooting ran for their lives.
One of the eyewitnesses said Songezo Sanazo to the newsmen;
“I was busy getting my documentation approved when I heard gunshots.
“I heard the first one, and I didn’t think it was something serious. But I had to run to cover up and hide behind the wall when I heard a second, a third, and a fourth, when other people were running out of the yard. We were all afraid.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, clarified that after the attack, the man tried to escape before being arrested on Monday, September 7.
“While she was busy speaking to the police officer at the Community Service Centre, the husband entered the station and, without saying anything, began firing at the woman who had been wounded on the scene.
“The weapon in his possession has been seized and will be sent to the forensic laboratory for ballistic examination.”
He said the defendant would appear shortly before the court on charges of murder.
