Covid 19 Update: Real Madrid Striker (Mariano) Tests Positive For COVID-19.
Madrid said the Spanish-born 26-year-old player had no interaction with other players and staff, becoming the only positive test reported after an initial screening process.
The club said: “After yesterday’s Real Madrid medical services individually performed the Covid-19 checks on our first team, our player Mariano has yielded a positive result.
“The player is in good health and at home compliant with the procedure for sanitary insulation.”
Los Blancos played in the second leg of their last-16 Champions League tie at Manchester City on Friday, August 7.
City retain a 2-1 lead after the first leg of the Bernabeu, played in February before the coronavirus pandemic brought the game to a halt.
In all the competitions in 2020, Mariano made seven appearances for Real and scored in a 2-0 victory over Barcelona in early March, a result that helped Real become Spanish champions.
